What's the Difference: Standard vs SmartSelect Stage Series Lightbars

Stage Series SmartSelect LED Light Bar with amber backlight on a Toyota Tacoma

When shopping for a Stage Series Lightbar, one of the key decisions is choosing between the Standard and SmartSelect models. Both deliver the same core performance, optics, and durability — so either way, you're getting a serious upgrade. But there are differences that might make one a better fit for your build.

What They Have in Common

Both Standard and SmartSelect lightbars use Diode Dynamics' patented TIR optics, which capture nearly all light from the LED and focus it exactly where you need it — no wasted or scattered light like traditional reflector bars. That means you can run a smaller bar and still get the usable output you'd expect from a larger one.

Both models are available in 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50-inch sizes, all built to the same rugged spec: aluminum housings, pin-fin heat sinks, IP69K waterproofing, and the signature ICO bezel. You get the same beam pattern and power level options across both versions. And like every Stage Series product, both are engineered and assembled at Diode Dynamics' St. Louis facility and backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Standard Model

The Standard model is the straightforward choice. It features a clean amber backlight with no startup sequence. If you want maximum performance in a simple, no-frills setup that's ready for anything — Standard is the way to go.

SmartSelect Model

SmartSelect adds another layer of functionality. Instead of amber-only, you get a selectable multicolor backlight with eight color options plus a dynamic startup sequence that activates each time the backlight powers on.

SmartSelect also unlocks control over the main beam itself. On 30-inch bars and larger, you can toggle between the inner sections, the outer sections, or the full bar. Unlike other systems that require extra wiring or separate switches, this is programmed directly into the bar — just cycle the main beam power a few times to set your preference. That flexibility is ideal for overlanding, dusty trails, or any time you want to change coverage on the fly.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you want a straightforward lightbar without the extras, go with Standard. If you want advanced beam control, multicolor backlighting, and that distinctive startup sequence, SmartSelect is the clear winner. Either way, you're getting the same industry-leading performance and durability that Stage Series is known for.
