DOT and SAE Compliance
The U.S. Department of Transportation sets standards for which lights are street legal. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) provides the engineering standards that define beam pattern requirements. Stage Series 6-inch light bars are designed and tested to meet both DOT and SAE standards in their driving and wide beam patterns — making them one of the few aftermarket light bars legal for on-road use.
Road-Legal Beam Patterns
Driving Pattern: A focused 20° × 8° rectangular beam designed to supplement your high beams at highway speeds. In 6-inch size when installed in pairs and properly aimed, meets SAE J581 as a driving/auxiliary high beam light.
Wide/Fog Pattern: A 100° × 8° spread that supplements fog lights for better visibility in inclement weather. In 6-inch size when installed in pairs and properly aimed, meets SAE J583 as a fog lamp.
Both patterns use TIR optics that focus all LED output where it's needed — a single 6-inch Stage Series light bar produces as much usable output as a generic 30-inch bar.
Off-Road Patterns
For off-road use, the flood pattern is also available — a true optically-designed 80° × 50° spread that maximizes even illumination across the full beam area. Ideal for low-speed trail use and work site lighting.
Swappable Lenses
Switching between beam patterns is quick — remove a few screws from the faceplate, swap the lens, and reattach. Keep extra lenses on hand to switch between road-legal and off-road patterns as needed.
